Lessons Demystified

Why buy lessons? What do you learn? What good are they? These, and other questions, have floated through the minds of our students over the years. Unfortunately, until now, a definitive response has never been presented. But now is the time to change that. It’s time to demystify.

I was a Student

During the years, thousands of students have passed through the “halls” of Gaming Lessons. Each has a story. In the first of our profiles, we look at a student who rose to become an analyst of the game, a member of the Gaming Lessons staff, and of course, a better gamer.

Wait! I have questions!

And we have answers.

All kidding aside, questions are not only expected, but welcome. To the side you’ll find the most common questions we field about the our lessons offerings. And, if you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, feel free to contact us and we’ll jump at the chance to help you.

Video Game Lessons? What exactly are they? Care to elaborate?

At their heart, they are exactly what they sound like. Video game lessons.

Let’s face it, gamers are getting better. The field is becoming more developed, all while more and more people are flocking to it. For those of us who want to step up our games, it is becoming more and more difficult. Like golfers looking to improve their abilities, we too are looking for new ways to get better.

Enter lessons. With the world’s best gamers, screened to ensure the they’re also the best instructors, at the helm you can learn from their experience. You can find problems with your approach to the game. Then, you can solve for those problems. You can improve your individual skills. You can improve your teamwork. No matter whether you just want to get better for casual play, beat the kid down the street, keep up with your own kids, or you want to improve your chances for the next Major League Gaming event, lessons can help you do it.

Combined with our array of free and premium content, you’ll be stepping up your game in no time.

Can’t I just learn this myself by playing a lot?

Some, certainly. Other parts? Unlikely.

Our instructors are the best because of thousands of games and countless more hours logged. They’ve jumped through the hoop, and have learned what works and what doesn’t. Lessons give you a chance to tap into their insights while avoiding the often tiring process that they had to trudge to get them themselves.

So yes, given enough time, parts of what our instructors offer can be discovered for yourself. Our free and premium content can even help you out with that. But the question that you should be asking is “what’s a better use of my time”—chasing down paths already blazed, or moving to the front and blazing them myself? Lessons don’t replace work on your part. But they can help you better focus that effort. And, for thousands of our students over the years, that’s made quite the difference.

Ok, there are merits to lessons. But why with you?

Why Gaming Lessons? Simple enough—only Gaming Lessons offers the Gaming Lessons experience.

Imagine a company dedicated to improvement—at any cost—for not only its students but also itself. Imagine a company believes matching students with the best possible instructor for their unique situation and needs is more important than just raking in the money. Imagine a company that believes the student experience must be perfect. Imagine a company that believes the student experience doesn’t end when instructor and student say their goodbyes.

Imagine. Then say hello. Because that company exists—it goes by the name Gaming Lessons.

Unlike with other lesson services, when you choose Gaming Lessons, you choose to value your experience above all else. We’re a service company, and we know that we can’t fool you into believing you had a good experience. That’s why, through our Student Bill of Rights, our lineup of the game’s top pros, and our top-notch Satisfaction team, we put all of our efforts into perfecting the Gaming Lessons Experience.

The Student Bill of Rights? What exactly are they?

If there’s one thing we’ve noticed over the years, it’s that students can be pushed into some interesting places. Instructors waiting days or weeks before contacting students, no-shows at the agreed upon times, cranky instructors, etc. As you can no doubt imagine, there’s a lot that can get in the way of an enjoyable experience.

You don’t like that kind of rubbish. Neither do we.

Enter the Student Bill of Rights. In it, you will find our stance on everything; from missed lessons, to lack of contact, delays, refunds, and everything in between.

We do this because we know how difficult it has been in the past with other lessons services where you’re forced to wait for weeks on ends as the instructor pushes your lesson back, misses lessons, and slowly stops responding to your emails, and we don’t want to see this kind of mentality take hold here at Gaming Lessons.

Thus, each and every one of our instructors and staff members has signed an agreement stating that they not only acknowledge your rights and the recourse you have for them, but that they respect them as well. The Student Bill of Rights, together alongside the Gaming Lessons Service Agreement, governs the lesson experience in its entirety.

In the end, this is just one more reason why Gaming Lessons is your best source for professional lessons.

What are the different types of services you offer?

Glad you asked! As you browse through each instructor’s profile, you’ll find that each offers some combination of Individual Lessons, Group Lessons, Gametime, Versus Matches, and Friend Requests.

Individual Lessons are our most popular option for instruction: they put you alongside your instructor for the best one-on-one instruction available. What you cover is up to you: as with every Gaming Lessons service, you are in the driver’s seat, able to control the direction of the lessons. Want to work on your aim? Or work on your ability to add to the team as a whole? Whatever it might be, individual lessons can help you improve it.

Team Lessons are how we approach teams and groups of individuals wanting to get better as a whole. Designed for groups of up to four (4) individuals, the focus shifts away from an individual and to the team as a whole. Note that the person who places the order shall be considered the group leader for management purposes.

Gametime is just what it sounds like. Want to play alongside, or against, your favorite Gaming Lessons instructor? Then Gametime is just what the doctor ordered. There’s no instruction involved, at least in the normal sense, but for some, Gametime offers a different approach to stepping up their game.

Versus Matches are where you can put your skills to the test. Wit against wit, strategy against strategy, brawn against brawn. Whether it be a 1v1, 2v2, or 4v4 match, the Versus Matches are right up your alley if you’re looking not for instruction, but just raw battle.

Friend Requests enable you to jump onto your favorite pro’s Xbox Live Friends List. From there, the possibilities of teaming with them, battling against them, and getting to know them are just an invite away. Note that this option merely guarantees a spot on the list. While our instructors have all made it a trend, much to the credit of their character, to go out of their way to invite paid friends into games, Gaming Lessons makes no guarantees to frequency or type of invites.

How do the lessons work?

The first step is yours: find the instructor who best matches your personality and needs, then order your lessons. While you wait for our staff to contact you to book your lesson into the instructor’s schedule, please surf on over to your account page and fill out a few details about yourself and what you’re looking for in your lesson. Please be as detailed as possible; the answers you give will be used by your instructor to develop your lesson plan and have a general idea of who you are, what level you’re at, and where you want to go/focus before the lesson even starts.

Once the profile is filled in, you’ll be contacted to schedule a time for your lesson. At that point, you can start reading some of the various articles we’ve published that discuss how to prepare for, and get the most out of your lesson.

When the time comes around, your instructor will send you a game invitation via Xbox Live. You’ll get together, enjoy your lesson, and go from there.

Immediately afterwards, our team will contact you to get a handle on how the lessons went: what you liked, what you disliked, what was done well, what wasn’t, etc will all be the topics of discussion. That information will then be analyzed by both team and instructor alike. Depending on your answers, it is highly likely that we’ll continue the discussion as needed.

Around two weeks afterwards, you will be contacted again with one final questionnaire: this time, a longer-term reflection on the lessons and how what you learned fit into your overall playing style.

As you can see, the system has been refined through thousands of lessons to make the process as simple and as easy as possible—a hallmark of the Gaming Lessons Experience. After all, why should stepping up your game be difficult?

Do I have to fill out my Student Profile?

Short answer? Yes.

The Student Profile is what enables us to run everything smoothly and ensure the highest possible experience. In the interest of making things easiest for you, we’ve set things up so that, unlike in the past, the profile is updatable and follows you from service to service, lesson to lesson, and instructor to instructor.

One important note: failing to fill out your profile, or keep it up to date (especially your gamertag) will result in delays with your order. An unfortunate situation, but entirely avoidable.

Ok, I’ve got a problem. Who do I contact?

Sorry to hear that!

In the unlikely event that you have a problem, whether it be a violation of your rights as a student, a simple question before you purchase, or anything else under the sun, feel free to surf on over to our contact page and send us a message via the appropriate category.

Our team is one of the fastest in the business, with a near-immediate response time. However, at times, that response time is sometimes longer. So give us 24 hours to reply before sounding the alarm (just kidding; if we take longer than 24 hours, feel free to shoot us another message if you can’t wait).

Know that we respond to each and every message in the order they arrive.
